JOB DESCRIPTION
Idaho Power Company is seeking a Journeymen Lineman to work as a member of the Twin Falls Transmission and Distribution Construction Project Team, performing construction and maintenance work on both energized and de-energized overhead/underground distribution and transmission lines and facilities. The successful candidate will assist in planning jobs to ensure compliance with safety and construction standards, and will drive and operate line vehicles as well as assist in stocking trucks with tools, parts, and equipment. He/she will also work with rubber goods and hot sticks on energized lines and will be expected to teach and mentor Apprentice Linemen, as well as fill in for Foreman when necessary.
Please Note: This position requires extensive travel with overnight stays. The successful candidate will work hitches away from headquarters.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- Lines core processes of new business operations, emergency response, and unplanned maintenance
- Lines construction methods, materials, standards, and equipment, as well as MSDS
- Common safety principles and practices.
- Prefer knowledge of CARES (IPC safety program)
Skills in
- Using personal computers and common Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Ability to:
- Read and understand construction drawings and diagrams
- Read and understand plat maps, feeder maps, and work order maps
- Establish a positive working relationship with all team members and leadership
Requirements
Must be at least 21 years of age and meet the following requirements
Education
- High school diploma or GED
Training and Experience:
- Certificate of completion from an Apprentice Lineman training program recognized by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training (BAT) plus at least 4 years of relevant work experience
OR - 6 years documented experience as a lineman in distribution and/or transmission, (two of which must be documented at a journeyman level)
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Class A commercial drivers license with acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position, and capable of acquiring tanker, doubles, and hazardous materials endorsements.
- Will be required to complete an Employee Possessor Questionnaire form within 30 days of hire to be submitted & approved by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms as a Possessor of Explosives
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the requirements outlined above, the successful candidate must:
- Successfully complete the Idaho Power Company Field Assessment (performed at the time of the interview
- Provide documentation of all line training or certifications at the time of application
- Live (or be willing to relocate) within a 2 hour drive from the operation center for emergency call-outs
- Must be able to work hitches away from home (frequent, with overnight stays)
- Abide by Company safety rules and regulations as well as complete other required Company and safety training
- Work overtime at supervisors discretion and respond to emergencies outside of normal working hours
- Be able & available to work non-traditional hours, including daytime, evenings, weekdays, and/or weekends
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Job requires the ability to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, crawl, climb into and out of vehicles, twist, kneel, balance and reach. Perform occasional overhead work, lifting up to 75 lbs shoulder-height and above; occasionally lift 100 lbs chest-, waist-, and knee-high; occasionally carry items up to 125 lbs with two hands (75 lbs with one hand); occasionally push and pull weight in excess of 50 lbs; climb and work off of poles, ladders, and other structures that may be 40-150 ft high; work in and around energized lines; work long hours (up to 10 hours on average and occasionally up to 24 hours) in extreme weather conditions, with frequent and continuous standing/walking and occasional sitting; hike and snowshoe up to one mile; operate various all-terrain vehicles; walk on uneven terrain that may involve wet, rocky, muddy, snow-packed, or icy conditions; occasionally operate foot controls, and use fine and gross hand manipulation. To ensure the manufacturers rated capacity of climbing hooks are not exceeded, applicants body weight cannot exceed 300 lbs. Job placement is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment, post-offer Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) medical exam.
