JOB DESCRIPTION
Idaho Power is seeking to hire a Journeyman Lineman to work as a member of an On-Demand Team, performing new construction and maintenance work on overhead and underground distribution and transmission lines. Typical duties include:
- Building and maintaining distribution and/or transmissions facilities
- Driving and operating line vehicles, such as line trucks and bucket trucks, snow cats, snowmobiles, four-wheeler, and backhoes
- Working with On-Demand or Project Teams as required by management
- Working independently as part of the rotation on the assigned team, including emergency response
- Working with rubber goods and hot sticks on energized lines.
- Assisting in planning jobs to ensure compliance with safety and construction standards
- May be required to rotate as a lead lineman on the crew
Job Requirements
Knowledge of:
- Line core process of new business operations and outage response
- Planned and unplanned maintenance
- Line construction methods, materials, standards, and equipment
- MSDS
- Common Lines-related safety practices
Skills in:
- Use of personal computers utilizing Microsoft products and time-entry software
Ability to:
- Perform basic arithmetic calculations
- Identify purposes of commonly encountered materials, parts, and equipment used in Lines construction
- Maintain neat, accurate, and legible records
- Read and understand construction drawings and diagrams, plat maps, feeder maps, and work order maps
- Establish positive working relationships with all team members and leadership
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate must be at least 21 years of age and meet the following minimum requirements:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED
Experience:
- Certificate of completion of an Apprentice Lineman training program that is recognized by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training (BAT), including at least four years of relevant work experience
OR - Six years documented experience as a lineman in distribution and/or transmission, (two of which must be documented at a journeyman level),
OR - Any Idaho Power Company (IPC) employee currently or previously employed as a Journeyman Lineman
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Class A CDL drivers license with acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
- First Aid/CPR card or ability to obtain within 90 days
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Job requires the ability to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, crawl, climb into and out of vehicles, twist, kneel, balance and reach. Perform occasional overhead work, lifting up to 75 lbs shoulder-height and above; occasionally lift 100 lbs chest-, waist-, and knee-high; occasionally carry items up to 125 lbs with two hands (75 lbs with one hand); occasionally push and pull weight in excess of 50 lbs; climb and work off of poles, ladders, and other structures that may be 40-150 ft high; work in and around energized lines; work long hours (up to 10 hours on average and occasionally up to 24 hours) in extreme weather conditions, with frequent and continuous standing/walking and occasional sitting; hike and snowshoe up to one mile; operate various all-terrain vehicles; walk on uneven terrain that may involve wet, rocky, muddy, snow-packed, or icy conditions; occasionally operate foot controls, and use fine and gross hand manipulation. To ensure the manufacturers rated capacity of climbing hooks are not exceeded, applicants body weight cannot exceed 300 lbs. Job placement is contingent upon successful completion of a Field Skills Assessment at time of interview, and a pre-employment, post-offer Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) medical exam.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS/INFORMATION
The successful candidate must be able to:
- Respond to outages outside of normal working hours and work overtime at the discretion of the supervisor
- Work on-call rotation
- Successful applicant may be assigned to any of the on-demand crews located within the Region as necessary
- Live or relocate to within an acceptable distance from Salmon, Idaho (contact hiring supervisor for specific requirements).
- Work a non-traditional work schedule that may include daytime, evening, weekday, and/or weekend work.
- Occasional travel and overnight stays may be required.
