West Region Director of Railroad Railcar Repair at Burley

Job Description

SUMMARY
Oversee all activities related to Railroad Railcar Repair and Paint Shop products/services by performing the following duties through subordinate supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assist direct reports in implementing the short-term and long-range plans and budgets based on broad corporate goals and growth objectives.

Oversees projected budget versus actual budget performance insuring cost effectiveness and profitability of all West Region Railroad Rail Car Repair.

Assists with development of performance goals, quality standards, and baseline performance measurements for West Region properties.

Implements and drives continuous improvement of all operations insuring safety and long-term profitability.

Guides and directs local management in the development, production, promotion, and financial aspects of the organizations services.

Creates the structure and processes necessary to manage the organizations current activities and its projected growth.

Assists in the development and installation procedures and controls to promote communication and adequate information flow within the organization.

Evaluates the results of overall Railroad Railcar Repair regularly and systematically and reports these results.

Ensures the responsibilities, authorities, accountabilities, growth, and development of all team members.

Ensures that all organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with FRA, AAR, and DOT regulations and laws governing railcar along with Watco Policies and Procedures.

Provide leadership and support including ongoing training at West Region Car Repair Facilities.

Establish and maintain excellent communications with Regional Vice President, Directors, Supervisors and Team Members and Corporate Railroad Car Repair Managers.

Job Requirements

Requirements:
Ability to oversee management of team members.
Must have at least 5 years of railcar experience in a supervisory and/or managerial role.
Ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external customers.
Must have computer skills including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook proficiency, and the ability to learn job specific programs.
Must have analytical and planning skills including financial and logistical

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist regional and local team members involving railcar repair, clerical, and paint shop. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or team members of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Ability to pass pre-enrollment physical exam and drug screening.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the essential functions of this job, the team member is regularly exposed to loud noise, moving machinery parts, outdoor weather conditions and elements, airborne particles and fumes from gas, oil, and grease, welding arcs.
