Job Description
Functions as a member of an internal consulting resource to the company by utilizing mathematical models, statistics, and other quantitative analytical techniques as appropriate. Provides assistance and training to business staff on the proper use of analytical methods, business simulation models for analysis, and other advanced qualitative techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Clarifies business questions to be explored with management through facilitation or other means. Solicits key information from the business staff, which is core to answering the difficult questions regarding strategic and tactical business scenarios.
- Determines data requirements for analytic methods and decision models; understands the business need for and the technical definitions of the data available. If necessary, determines a structure for analytical data, investigates existing sources of data, and prototypes the data design which facilitates both data input and actionable output forms and reports.
- Develops the coding necessary for manipulating input data to be utilized within appropriate analytical methods. Chooses proper structure and input parameters to build the appropriate model or simulation, or for statistical inference, hypothesis testing, or statistical projections. Validates model or analysis results, and verifies results can be utilized to benefit the business user in their decision making process.
- Utilize feedback methods to assess whether the developed solution continues to provide value for business users.
- Ensures that the necessary analytical tools are available, and that they are properly installed and functioning for their intended use. Provides training to business staff on the proper application and use of analytical techniques.
Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree in a mathematical/analytical field (e.g. mathematics, engineering, physics, operations research, management science, computer science etc.) or other relevant equivalent degree required.
- General knowledge of techniques used in business analytics such as simulation, mathematical modeling, optimization techniques, statistics, etc.
- Ability to communicate clearly and to use appropriate language with both business staff and technical analytic analysts.
- Comfortable with initial project/prototype ambiguity such that it does not get in the way of starting the initial work, knowing that the refinement of details will come later.
- Thrives in a teaming environment; open to ideas from many sources including other Advanced Analytics Analysts, business staff, and relevant IT staff.
- Familiarity with programming languages, including the .NET framework, C#, and the Microsoft data bases. Comfortable in constructing user interfaces and integrating data to and from application prototypes.
- Ideal candidate would have 3-5 years relevant experience in prototyping analytical models and techniques for business use.
