IT Network Engineer III at Boise

Job Description

REPORTS TO:
Director of Operations (primary) and NOC Manager (secondary)

SALARY:
Commensurate to Experience and Certifications

SUMMARY:
The primary role of an IT Network Engineer III is to provide remote (NOC) and onsite support of highly varied IT topologies, to include: provide assistance with Internet connectivity, set up and support of workstations and printers, domain changes, resolution of e-mail problems, resolve networking problems, and assistance with desktop HW/SW problems. Successful engineers must exercise discretion and independent judgment in resolving mission critical customer issues, making administrative changes to live systems that affect email, DNS, etc., and that could have a material impact on the customer’s business operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and follow standard processes, plan effectively to complete tasks on schedule, and clearly document results.
- Troubleshoot complex problems with root cause analysis and communicate problems and solutions both verbally and in writing in a clear, concise, and complete manner.
- Enter all customer calls and site related work into an automated issue tracking system.
- Ensure that problems are escalated appropriately until a resolution is reached.
- Travel to customer locations as necessary.
- Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting customer’s HW/SW issues.
- Complete special project assignments and perform side duties as requested.
- Participate in the on-call schedule rotation (approximately 1 week out of every 6).
- Maintain knowledge of industry trends, best practices, system benchmarks, and overall technical acumen.
- Communicate with NOC Operations Manager regarding any process improvements that may help to increase the team’s ability to successfully support its clients.
- Ability to work after hours as deemed necessary by the NOC Manager

Job Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Experience at an IT Help Desk supporting MS Windows and desktop applications.
- Proficient with helpdesk procedures and ticket resolution.
- Ability to professionally obtain information from customers in order to solve problems.
- Field experience supporting SMB class server and workstation clients.
- Able to independently perform mid-level hardware and software trouble shooting.
- Router configuration and switch management experience.
- Possess the ability to troubleshoot complicated network issues by working through a series of steps to identify and resolve problems as they occur.
- Experience with MS Server 2008, MS Server 2008 R2, & MS Server 2010.
- Experience with MS Exchange Server 2010.
- Proficiency with MS Windows OS to current versions.
- Proficiency installing, navigating and troubleshooting MS Office to current versions.
- Ability to multitask while ensuring that no issues are left incomplete.
- Willingness to take control of education and self-improvement opportunities so that new network technologies are understood and supportable as they emerge.
- Positive attitude and a commitment to client success.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- 4 or more years LAN/WAN industry related IT experience.
- 1-2 or more years IT field services experience.
- MS Windows Active directory, MS Exchange server, MS Windows through Win7, Microsoft Office through 2011.
- Cisco Router and PIX IOS, TCP/IP, Layer 1-3 Networking, Wireless technology.
- Enterprise virus/malware protection management.
- Server backup strategies and software.

CERTIFICATIONS:
- Microsoft certifications.
- Cisco CCNA certification
- HDI certifications desirable
- CompTIA A+ certificate and Network + certificate desirable

EDUCATION
- School Requirements: Undergraduate Degree or equivalent work experience required.
