Job Description

Summary:

The Maintenance Supervisor will promote and maintain the well-being, morale and efficiency of Twin Falls maintenance department. This position will be responsible for supervising, directing and coordinating the work of all maintenance personnel in the box plant. The supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and direction to ensure the safety of the workforce, provide quality and efficient execution of goals, monitor crew performance, provide problem analysis for equipment history, submit accurate reports of work execution, take appropriate action in response to emergencies, and administer company policies as they relate to assigned personnel. Position will provide the avenue for effective training and development necessary for individual and collective success.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that safety is a primary value of the assigned personnel.
  • Plan and lead daily activities of the maintenance department in the areas of safety, quality and maintenance. This requires both a focus on leadership as well as the full utilization of information, procedures and methods to positively impact the materials, machines, and the internal and external customers of the facility.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a reliability-based maintenance system to proactively address equipment issues. Plan and schedule maintenance work orders that best support plant strategic needs in a timely manner.
  • Assign personnel to scheduled jobs such that skill and training opportunities are maximized.
  • Train, develop, and evaluate the maintenance mechanic team includes performance appraisals, personal development plans and disciplinary actions.
  • Support overall company and plant directives by evaluating current departmental processes and developing value-based solutions to meet those needs including initiatives to deliver results.
  • Support the Maintenance Planners using appropriate methods and procedures for properly allocating manpower and estimating, planning, and scheduling jobs.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with the plant management, supervisors, and operation employees.
  • Actively pursue measures to reduce downtime on plant equipment, identify opportunities and take measures to reduce waste.
  • For each scheduled job verify that all safety requirements, predetermined equipment, appropriate tools, materials, and the equipment to be maintained are available and ready for the scope of work that is scheduled.
  • Monitor and direct work execution.
  • Monitor work in progress and completed work to ensure that quality standards are met within the prescribe time frame.
  • Communicate completed work to operations and solicit feedback concerning satisfaction.
  • Accept and execute properly authorized emergency work and maintain a planned backlog for use during unscheduled equipment outages.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of area equipment and facilities, write work orders when malfunctions are observed, and inspect and promote housekeeping.
  • Direct excess parts and materials to be returned to the Storeroom.
  • Understand and follow the Bargaining Agreement and the Seniority Work Rules as they relate to personnel coordination.
  • Conduct safety and crew meetings as scheduled. Review required topics, record attendance, and write minutes for distribution.
  • Conduct safety observations.
  • Continually assess the performance of the crew. Recommend and initiate opportunities for continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Proven knowledge/experience in electrical troubleshooting, working with PLCs, AC/DC motors and controllers, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, steam and boiler controls, mechanical power drives, welding, plumbing, and electronics is required.
  • Experience in preventive and predictive maintenance methods a must with emphasis in Lean Manufacturing processes and root cause analysis.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, mathematical proficiency, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Self-motivated individual with a take-charge attitude and an understanding of personnel management techniques.
  • Demonstrated project management, planning and organizational skills.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, problem solving, analytical, and communications skills.
  • Must have experience with computerized maintenance systems.
  • Proven success at developing and implementing structured departmental goals that empowers employees to understand, own, and control plant processes.
  • Ability to motivate team members towards successful and timely completion of assigned work responsibilities.
  • Strong computer skills including, but not limited to a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project. Experience with JDE is very helpful.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast paced production setting.
  • Experience working as a licensed electrician is preferred.

Leadership:

  • At least 5 years of solid supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including lead-by-example management style and a passion for improving processes.

Education:

A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required for this position. A B.S. degree in Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Engineering, Paper Science or related field is preferred.
