The Boise VAMC is currently recruiting for a Dietitian Telehealth MOVE for Nutrition and Food Service.

Note:  The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-11  The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-7 to GS-11.  The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidate’s education and experience and recommend the grade and step at which the candidate will be placed.  The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.

The Telehealth Registered Dietitian is the medical nutrition expert responsible for independently planning, developing and directing all nutritional care activities for assigned Telehealth MOVE! (Managing Overweight/Obesity for Veterans Everywhere) and Telehealth Nutrition Veterans.  The incumbent supports the facility’s mission and coordinates nutritional care with other care providers, the client, the clients’ family, the Care/Coordination Home Telehealth (CCHT) team, and the community.  Major responsibilities include:  in regards to the Telehealth MOVE! Weight Management Program and any other nutritional initiatives administered through or relating to the CCHT Telehealth program -  collaborate with the CCHT teams, screen and enroll veterans in the programs,  plan strategies to manage and deliver nutritional aspects of the programs, develop Telehealth nutritional care and education for the program; provide quality assurance and evaluations; engage in professional development; provide motivational education about MOVE! and other available nutrition programs offered within the medical center; improve the effectiveness, productivity, and satisfaction of patients; develop policy and guidance; maintain continual professional development and develop clinical tools for use in the field.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:   

  • U.S. citizenship - Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education - The individual must have earned a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university, and fulfilled each of the following criteria: 

  1.  Completed a didactic program in dietetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics(ACEND), formerly the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE). 
  2.  Completed a CADE/ACEND accredited supervised practice program. 
  3.  Passed a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), the credentialing branch of the American Dietetic Association (ADA).

  • Registration - All applicants must be registered with the CDR.
  • English Language Proficiency - Dietitians must be proficient in spoken and written English.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates:

GS-7 Level: Experience or Education.  None beyond the basic requirements

GS-9 Level: Experience or Education.  At least 1 year of experience at the next lower level that demonstrates the core competencies described at that level, or education equivalent to 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education, or master’s or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited university or college in the field of dietetics or closely related field. 

GS-11 Level: Experience or Education.  At least 1 year of experience at the next lower level that demonstrates the core competencies described at that level, or education equivalent to 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education, or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited university or college in the field of dietetics or closely related field.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary.  Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work.  However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of items less than 30 pounds.  No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
