Laborer (TC-B) at Oldtown

JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position: Albeni Falls Dam is located on the Pend Oreille river in beautiful northern Idaho about 45 miles northeast of Spokane, Washington. Albeni Falls is a multi-purpose project responsible for hydropower generation, flood control, recreation, navigation and wildlife management. The incumbent will have the opportunity to work in a team atmosphere carefully fulfilling the mission requirements.

Other Advantages: Variety of outdoor activities including hiking, wildlife watching, camping, fishing, hunting, skiing, biking, snowmobiling, boating, etc. Major cities with all amenities (shopping, airports, cultural activities) include Spokane, WA (45 miles), Sandpoint, ID (25 miles) and Coeur dAlene, ID (50 miles). Alternative work schedules including 10 hour work shifts are available.

In and around the spillway, intake, powerhouse, shops, warehouses and reservoir area you will:

Load and unload equipment, materials, supplies, trash and other debris to and from trucks and cars
Use hand tools such as picks, shovels, forks, rakes and chain saws for the maintenance and repair of roads, grounds and project areas; cut and remove brush; collect trash and garbage
Clean up after construction and/or major overhaul and repair jobs
Operate hand or small power mowers, air or electric scaling tools
Dig ditches and level small areas to grade with hand tools. Perform janitorial duties including sweeping, scrubbing, dusting, and polishing floors and woodwork; cleaning windows, walls, furniture and washrooms
Clean restroom facilities, empty waste containers and replace minor supplies
Perform manual labor in the receipt and storage of warehouse supplies using hand trucks and dollies
Operate vehicles or motorized equipment as required
Water, cut, and trim lawn areas
Sweep walkways and other areas and shovel snow.

SCREEN OUT ELEMENT:  ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A LABORER (TC-B) WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: Without more than normal supervision, I have cleaned tools, equipment and work areas in a shop or power house environment. I have the ability to complete a variety of ground maintenance tasks and to work in a warehouse environment loading and unloading various supplies and materials.  My resume reflects current or past experience performing these tasks.
Failure to meet the above screen out element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT :
Work requires prolonged periods of walking, standing, and climbing ladders as well as working in cramped spaces. Must be able to lift and carry equipment, supplies and materials routinely weighing up to, and occasionally over, 45 lbs. Must be able to exert heavy physical effort such as lifting, carrying and moving heavy objects, digging ditches, or pushing heavy equipment (wheelbarrow load of cement, etc.). Must maintain the ability to perform the full range of duties associated with the position
 
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed both in and outside the powerhouse, intake and spillway structures. Indoor work will subject employee to high noise levels and outdoor work is subject to usual climate extremes. Employee will be subject to heat, cold, dampness, draftiness, and poorly lighted areas. Employee may work on open docks or in storage yards. Work may be dirty, dusty, greasy, etc. There is danger of cuts, bruises, electrical shock, injury from equipment operated, and falling from ladders and scaffolds. There is occasional exposure to paint fumes, cleaning solvents, battery acid, and other toxic or hazardous materials. There is the added danger of drowning while working around swift moving water. Employee is subject to the discomfort of wearing required safety equipment such as hard-hats, gloves, safety shoes, respirators, ear plugs, etc. Must wear appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing, and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements.


There is no education requirement for this position. 

There is no substitution of education for experience.
