Instructor/Counselor

Position Summary: Reports to the Programs Manager.  Responsible for providing academic instruction and rehabilitative services to offenders in accordance with approved curricula and in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC). Essential Functions:
  • Plan and conduct classes and activities for offenders in life skills, MRT, Familiy Reuinification, Work Force Readiness, and other subjects.  Prepare teaching plans, activities and learning experiences to increase the positive impact of courses taught. 
  • Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of substance abuse and other program content.
  • Utilize appropriate audio and visual teaching materials individualized to the specific need of the offender.
  • Assess offender performance.
  • Participate in staff conferences in an endeavor to develop and improve educational programs.
  • Adjust material and curriculum to the individual differences of the offenders assigned.
  • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
  • Maintain accountability of offenders and property; adhere to safety practices.
  •  It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.  RequirementsEducation and Experience Requirements: Instructor:Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years substance abuse, social work or psychological rehab education and/or experience, or four (4) years substance abuse, social work or psycho-social rehab experience.  ISAS certificate preferred.   Counselor:Bachelor’s degree in counseling or related field, or four (4) years work experience as a substance abuse counselor or treatment aide in a substance abuse treatment program, detoxification program or related area. Must be a Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor (CADC).
     
    • Valid drivers license in the State of Idaho with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
