NDT Examiner/Quality Assurance Engineer (12-075-E)

Selected applicants will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. US Citizenship is required.

The non-destructive testing (NDT) Examiner will provide independent oversight of nuclear processes at the Naval Reactors Facility (NRF) to ensure that all aspects of the quality assurance program are being engineered into NRF procedures and implemented in the work place, with particular focus on NDT.

Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintain American Society for NDT (ASNT) SNT-TC-1A Level III Examiner certification in all required NDT methods. A 5-year requalification by ASNT written examination is required for all related NDT methods.
  • Examine and provide continuing training for qa inspectors as Level II Inspectors in each related NDT method.
  • Develop and maintain local procedures and other documents associated with the NRF QA program, particularly in the area of NDT.
  • Participate in the instruction of personnel within QA and other departments on Quality program elements and principles. Maintain associated records.
  • Implementation of local NRF QA Manual and other quality process improvements.
  • Interface with personnel in a variety of organizations to improve product quality.
  • Participate inselected audits, identification of discrepant conditions, and follow of corrective actions.


Education Requirements

A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Sciences from an accredited college or university is preferred, with equivalent experience considered.

Experience Requirements
  • Possess current ASNT SNT-TC-1A Level III Examiner certification in NDT disciplines including visual (VT) magnetic particle (MT) liquid penetrant (PT) and radiography (RT). (RT qualification or the ability to qualify in RT within 6 months is required.)
  • It is desirable, although not required, that the applicant possess a current ASNT SNT-TC-1A Level III Examiner certification in mass spectroscopy helium leak testing (HLT).
  • A minimum of 9 years of QA experience in nuclear work processes or implementation of quality program requirements, or equivalent, is required.
  • The candidate must have good written skills and must possess the good verbal skills necessary to train others and to present conclusions and recommendations to management.
