Volt Workforce Solutions is hiring for an on-site Software Architect/Developer for our client in Boise, Idaho.
The SA will be responsible for software architecture development of Central Diagnostics System. Effectively analyze system requirements and break it down to the component parts for clear communication to development team. CDS system includes Linux based embedded controller, cell phone modem, and web site. The successful candidate will be able to:
1) Analyze system inputs to formulate a software architecture that meets the system mission of "Improved on time performance and locomotive reliability".
2) Develop embedded controller architecture. Provide written documentation, including descriptive text and drawings, that supports the proposed architecture.
3) Develop software modules in support of the system architecture.
4) Work on other assignments as assigned by the Software Manager.

10+ years embedded software development experience including requirements, documentation,
development/debug, and unit/component testing.
At least 5 years experience in a Unix/Linux, C/C++ development environment.
Experience using configuration management/defect tracking tools and processes
Experience using symbolic debugging tools such as GDB, etc.
Experience with low level debugging on x86 processors, communication protocols such as RS232/485 Modbus and Ethernet TCP/IP, embedded systems development, and real time operating systems.
Desired (any):
Experience writing software documentation such as IEEE: SRS,SDD,SVVP,STP, SPMP, SQAP
5+ years of development of locomotive/rail embedded software is highly desirable.
Experience developing PTE (portable test equipment) for rail applications.
Experience in a testing organization developing software test plans, test execution, script, or test harnesses.
Experience developing software for operator panel, display units.
Experience with application development, database design, and web site design
Personal Qualifications:
Must be a team player able to work well with others in a dynamic changing environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Fluent in English.
Strong work ethic. Desire to get things done and willing to work OT to meet deadlines.
Education/Training Required:
Bachelors Degree (Masters is a plus) in CIS or related degree. Prefer technical writing training.
