Environmental Engineer - Pocatello, Idaho

Position Summary:

The Environmental Engineer is responsible to help the lead the facility in assuring environmental compliance with RCRA, CERCLA, NESHAP, CAA, CWA and other environmental programs. The successful candidate will have the ability to determine strategies to deal with waste streams in the phosphoric acid, phosphogypsum storage, SPA, granulation and sulfuric acid processing areas. This Engineer will evaluate and determine alternate pollution control, monitoring strategies, reporting and record-keeping actions. The engineer will also assist in management of any potential enforcement actions. The Environmental Engineer works closely with the Environmental Manager to develop strategies for management of solid waste, wastewater management, groundwater remediation and air permitting issues.

Responsibilities:

• Provides guidance to plant operations to assure compliance with regulatory standards
• Assists computer services in the design and implementation of source parameter monitoring, data management, and alarm points
• Evaluates new equipment and works with plant and project engineers to find solutions for environmental improvement
• Develops new data gathering techniques to improve compliance and communication
• Implements new strategies to meet requirements of settlement negotiations
• Responsible for environmental programs as assigned by the environmental manager

Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree in Chemical, Environmental Engineering, or other engineering discipline preferred, P.E. certification preferred
• 5+ years experience environmental compliance
• Certified EPA opacity reader or ability to become certified
• Environmental monitoring, analysis, and reporting background required
• Supervisory experience required.
• Must have strong problem solving ability, particularly when dealing with potential non-compliance situations that could be significant liabilities to the company
• Physical ability necessary to carry equipment up and down stairs

Work Environment:

The work environment will consist of a combination of office work and fieldwork as needed to complete required testing, trouble-shooting, monitoring, data-analysis and validation, record-retention and reporting. Fieldwork may involve work with process area hazards, and assistance in the mitigation of any hazardous spills or releases. The candidate must be willing to work long hours in field situations and the position may require some off shift rotational work during certain times of the year. The successful applicant will be on call and must be available via mobile phone. The engineer will play a key role in communicating regulatory expectations in the plant areas through regular assessments and inspections.
