IT Site Support Manager at Boise

Job Description

The McClatchy Company, the third-largest newspaper publisher in the U.S., is seeking an IT Site Support Manager to oversee The Idaho Statesman IT team.

The IT Site Manager is responsible for managing and oversight of all newspaper systems including insuring the reliability of the newspaper systems at the newspaper, insuring a timely delivery of the newspapers and required business related functions necessary to produce the newspaper.

This function includes but is not limited to: 
1) system installation, configuration and support of hardware, operating systems, and application software;
2)  support for networks including system administration and security
3) controls and documentation;
4)  procurement of  applications, hardware,  miscellaneous software, and supplies; and
5) inventory management of IT assets.


In addition, must be able to perform all administrative functions associated with the delivery of these services, including but not limited to: 1) staff scheduling, 2) vendor management, and 3) service and budget forecasting. This position may be required to be available outside of standard business hours (e.g. begin work early; work after hours and/ or weekends) as needed to meet business requirements. The position participates in both departmental and cross-functional special projects as required to achieve business objectives.


This individual oversees, and may perform the essential upkeep of the computer systems, network systems, electronic equipment, and telephony system for the Company.  In addition, this person acts as an internal consultant, guiding and assisting users during all phases of the process involving technology issues. The person in the this position must be able to stay current with technology trends, newspaper operations, technology best practices, manage, coordinate, and/or perform special projects as needed.

Job Requirements

Qualified applicants should have

  • 5 or more years IT experience leading a team of IT professionals
  • Thorough understanding of Mac and PC hardware
  • working familiarity with LANs and WANs
  • 4 + years experience with Windows Server 2003+
  • 4 + years experience with Windows, XP, 7+ desktop operating systems
  • Working knowledge of Storage Area Networks, disk-to-disk and disk-to-tape data availability solutions.
  • Familiarity with Access/Excel data retrieval including ODBC connectivity, SQL queries and Excel pivot tables.
  • Experience with Call Center or Helpdesk software is required.
  • Outstanding customer service skills with demonstrated ability to deal with a variety of people.
  • Service oriented with excellent communication skills for understanding technical problems and clearly explaining solutions.
