Power Plant Mechanic Crew Supervisor (CF-I) at Ahsahka

JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:
This position is located at Dworshak Dam and Reservoir, Ahsahka, ID, a multi-purpose hydropower project, with missions that include operation and maintenance of the facility for flood control, hydroelectric power generation, recreation and natural resources management. Dworshak Project has approximately 50 employees.
Dworshak Dam and Reservoir, found in North Central Idaho along the North Fork of the Clearwater River, is located in scenic forested and mountainous country. Orofino, ID is located seven miles from the dam and has a population of approximately 4,000 and is at an elevation of 1,025 feet. With an average temperature of 29 degrees in January and 73 degrees in July, Orofino is known for it mild weather and long growing season. Incumbents regular work schedule will be Mondays thru Thursdays, 10 hours per day. Overtime may be required.

  • Supervise the work of a crew performing mechanical maintenance and machine shop work at a major multiple purpose hydroelectric project.
  • Establish work priorities for the crew, determines and balances the items of work, assures availability of materials/tools and trade skills.
  • Coordinates work with other crews.
  • Inspects of equipment and structures to determine projected mechanical maintenance needs.
  • Establish periodic maintenance and inspection schedules.
  • Plan short and long-range maintenance efforts to include proposed equipment rebuilding or replacement.
  • Direct accomplishment of work orders assigned; explain work requirements, techniques and procedures; define standards; provide instructioins; analyze work in progress; modify work plans or assignments.
  • Ensure that safety policies and standards are applied.
  • Ensure job hazard analyses are prepared and ensure compliance with safe clearance procedures.
  • Assign work, and adjusts assignments according to workload, changing deadlines and priorities.
  • Use computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to input and retrieve data; analyze workload information and support decisions involving changes or modifications to equipment.
  • Perform the duties of a journey level power plant mechanic when problems are encountered.

Screen Out Element: Ability to lead or supervise the work of the position as demonstrated by experience performing the duties of a journeyman level power plant mechanic and the majority of the following duties without more than normal supervision: Transmit instructions into working assignments or tasks for a mechanical crew; Set the pace for work accomplishments; Explain and instruct others of the same or lower grades; Inspect, accept or reject work of others; Assure compliance to safety regulations and practices by crew members. Failure to meet the screen-out element will result in an ineligible rating. (Your resume must reflect present or past experience performing these tasks.)

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort requires climbing stairs and ladders; prolonged standing and walking; and incumbent may occasionally assist trades and crafts workers by lifting, carrying, pushing pulling, and twisting objects weighing up to, and occasionally over, 45 pounds. There is danger of cuts, bruises, and burns from equipment and possible irritation or injury to eyes and skin from acids and solvents.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside and outside the powerhouse. When working outside, is exposed to the usual climate extremes. Exposed to high noise levels when working in the powerhouse and shops and conditions of low visibility due to wearing protective devices and available light in some locations.
Must endure the discomfort of protective devices such as ear plugs, safety glasses and goggles, face masks, shields, helmets, respirators and gloves depending on work supervised and safety requirements which must be met. At projects where repairs to sewage treatment plants are performed there is the additional danger of exposure to raw sewage. Must wear appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
